Abstract
This paper uses definitions of various scholars and thinkers to define the critical thinking process and then uses these definitions to narrow down the critical thinking process into a few basic steps. Next, the paper explains the importance of critical thinking to the parties involved in a divorce and demonstrates how the basic steps of the critical thinking process can be used when considering divorce.

From the Paper
"In recent times, however the definition of critical thinking has changed somewhat to include character traits and cognitive development. Harvey Siegel?s work plays an important role in the development of more advanced definition of critical thinking. He defined critical thinking as that thinking which is ?appropriately moved by reasons? (p. 32) However because of the use of vague ideas, Siegel?s definitions is rather too broad in scope and is unlikely to be adopted for serious consideration. But his criticism helped us see the problems that existed with previous definitions."

Abstract
This paper analyzes and examines the multitude of issues related to the importance of critical thinking. The author discusses the importance of critical thinking, the essential elements of critical thinking, and reviews tactics individuals use to guide their thinking process. Finally, this paper concludes with recommendations for improving how individuals utilize critical thinking.

From the Paper
"Individuals and researchers should never underestimate the importance of critical thinking. Critical thinking affects each and every individual?s life, as well as society in general, both in the short-term and long run. Examples of decisions involving critical thinking include economic choices, educational decisions, occupational choices, political decisions, religious choices, social choices, etc. What makes critical thinking so invaluable is that decisions made with little or no critical thinking frequently backfire, creating greater difficulties. In order to avoid potential difficulties and unexpected surprises, individuals and organizations must continually engage in critical thinking, adapting their ways as time and other factors dictate."

Critical Thinking, 2004.
An analysis of the significance of logical fallacies in critical thinking and decision making.
1,123 words (approx. 4.5 pages), 9 sources, MLA, $ 38.95
» Click here to show/hide summary

Abstract
This paper discusses 'faulty analogy', 'slippery slope argument,' and 'red herring' and shows how these logical fallacies have had a detrimental effect on critical thinking and decision making. The paper also points out that critical thinking and decisions in the area of ethics seem to be particularly vulnerable to logical fallacies.

From the Paper
"Faulty analogies, such as the example cited above, are common since it is easy to become impressed by a connection or two and then see an analogy where there really isn?t one (O?Rourke, 2001, Ch.7, para 22). Surprisingly, even organizations often make business decisions based on faulty analogies. Take, for example, the mistakes made by Disney Parks and Resorts in France. Based on the successful replication of its U.S. theme parks in Japan, Disney assumed that the same business model would work in Paris as well. Euro Disney, however, proved to be a very different story in terms of operations. While there were some similarities in customer preferences, the differences proved to be far stronger. For instance, one of the biggest differences, which proved to be a costly error for Disney, was that Europeans treated theme parks as places for day excursions."

Critical Race and Post-colonial Theorists, 2006.
A comparison and contrast of the critical race and post-colonial theories of racial formation.
1,800 words (approx. 7.2 pages), 1 source, $ 71.95
» Click here to show/hide summary

Abstract
Critical race theorists such as Anthony Appiah, Michael Omi, and Howard Winant differ with post-colonial theorists such as Edward Said and Homi Bhabha with respect to how they understand racial formation in a post-colonial context. Subsequently, while critical race theory and post-colonial theory both challenge the Eurocentrism of classical and contemporary social theory, they offer different interpretations regarding the process and impact of racial formation. This paper examines the differences in these two theories' approach to understanding racial formation in a post-colonial context.

From the Paper
"Historically, critical race theory can be considered a product of the development of African-American thought in the post-civil rights era, and challenges the traditional philosophical tenets of the liberal civil rights movement, which promoted a colorblind approach to achieving social justice. "

Critical Care Nursing, 2005.
An examination of why someone would choose to follow a career in critical care nursing.
1,514 words (approx. 6.1 pages), 3 sources, MLA, $ 49.95
» Click here to show/hide summary

Abstract
This paper looks at the reasons that the writer has chosen to work in critical care nursing and the importance that it has on the writer's life. The rationale for choosing this career is discussed along with these reasons. Following this, the background of the career is dealt with as the necessary preparation, the typical professional responsibilities and the personality traits that are best suited for this kind of career are important not only to a better understanding of the career and the writer, but also to those that might be considering this type of career for themselves in the future.

From the Paper
"Why someone chooses a particular career path has much to do with the personality that the individual has and what type of work appeals to that person. This is very important in many different types of jobs, as some people are just not 'cut out' to work in a particular field, and some do not have the desire to perform the functions of a particular job. This is very apparent in nursing, as it takes a certain kind of person to do the work of caring for others and deal with the lack of recognition and lack of high pay that many nurses must face. For those that work in critical care, witnessing the deaths and dying of others are also a part of the job and the individual that chooses this occupation must be able to accept this issue and have empathy for the patient and the patient's family without becoming so emotionally attached that he or she is unable to do the job competently and correctly."

Critical Thinking and Organizing Skills, 2004.
Examines the process of critical thinking in businesses and large organizations.

» Click here to show/hide summary

Abstract
This paper looks at the the skills required for critical thinking in a business environment or large organization. The paper suggests that, in order to make proper and efficient decisions, the decision maker must use a method of evaluating relevant criteria that helps him disregard factors that are emotionally based and, instead, focus on those factors that represent the central needs of the organization. To help demonstrate this principle, the acts of purchasing a car and building a new building are cited as examples that illustrate the complexities involved in the decision making process.

From the Paper
"Critical thinking involves the process of decoding the ancillary factors which affect our decision making process, and getting down to the significant factors, and identifying the desired outcome which are at the core of any decision. For a consumer to decide what kind of car he would like to purchase is a decision affected by many factors. The cost of the vehicle, financing terms, and the auto?s historical reliability are all important factors. However, the person?s needs also affect the buying decision. Does he work in an executive position, or need to carry tools to a construction sight every day? Does he have a family, and needs a vehicle to carry his kids to and from soccer games, movies, school events and church on the weekends, or will a sporty 2 seat sports car better suit his bachelor lifestyle? Finally, the options which car manufacturers make available can all factor into the buying decision. Details that cover the color of the interior and exterior down to whether or not the tires are a certain brand or have raised white letters can be important to the consumer, and ultimately affect his decision making process."
